Best Mexican Restaurants in St. Pete

Mexican cuisine is by far my favorite type of food. I may be bias, but I am also known for making some of the best fresh homemade guacamole and spicy margs ,so I am especially picky when it comes to getting it out.

  1. Pepe’s Cantina

Ya know when you are unsure if you can trust a ton of really good Google reviews? This was one of those times for me, but it absolutely lived up to the hype. The vibe in Pepe’s is all around great - not too big, but not too small, making it cozy yet spacious with cool modern decor. It’s a hidden gem located in a random shopping center, kinda in between the beach and downtown. There is outside and indoor seating, and they play good Spanish music and soccer games on most of the tvs. It is just an all around a clean great place, with consistently delicious food.

The margaritas… I feel like for some reason it’s hard to come by a really good quality margarita these days, which is just rude, but Pepe’s margs are so fresh. They make their own tequila and its very smooth. I just love that the spicy strawberry marg is fresh muddles strawberries, and they use fresh jalapeños. Also, top secret, but apparently they may be opening up another location downtown soon…!!

My order: steak tacos with soft corn tortillas, refried beans, and a side of chipotle aoli + a strawberry spicy marg

Guillermo’s order: birria tacos with black beans and a side of tostones and a skinny spicy marg

Steak tacos (ask for a side of chipotle aioli if you’re a dip person)
